Number of Years in Business: 22 Number of Employees: 4 Location(s) your business has been in, including current address: Started business in home. Then briefly I had offices in downtown Chicago, South Holland, and Lombard. Moved the business to 122 N. Second St. in Peotone and I currently reside at 104 W. Brief history of business: I became interested in automated information management while employed at Will County Health Department as an Epidemiologist and working on my Masters degree. While employed at the health department (early 80s), I self-taught and assisted in debugging a powerful database development tool in the pioneer years of micro computing. I also developed my first three applications for the health department. In 1984 I took a job as an independent contractor in the Bronx, NY for Montifiore Medical Center developing a home health care management system. In 1986 started my own business and eventually incorporated as Auriel Information Systems, Inc. (Auriel, by the way, is the archangel of the north, element earth). Over the years the business has grown and shrunk depending on number and type of clients as well as adapted to changes in information management technology. My clients have ranged from corporate giants such as Sears, Citicorp, health care facilities such as Northwestern Memorial, New York Hospital, and Albert Einstein Hospital, government agencies, such as State of Illinois, St. Joseph County, Indiana and the Village of Peotone as well as a variety of small to large businesses and agencies. Currently, Auriel has highly skilled application developers and a significant client base. With the recent advancements in remote access technology Auriel staff can work from Peotone and support our clients in Indiana, Palatine, Washington D.C., and several steel companies throughout the Midwest and east coast. Memorable moments in your companys history: It has all been a memorable moment and the fantasy continues. I love the travel, the different clients and their employees, and challenges in creating and implementing custom information management systems in new environments. One of the most remarkable experiences has to be working in New York City. One client was Holy Family School in the Bronx (Art Carney and Sal Mineo were both alumni). To save the client money I stayed in the convent enjoying breakfast and dinner with the resident nuns. Near the end of the week I left the convent for a corporate apartment in Manhattans swank Upper East Side that my wife Carma would arrange with her corporate connections and she would join me there. I would finish the work week either working at Citicorp on Park Avenue or Wall Street or at New York Hospital. Carma and I would enjoy our weekends in Manhattan: theatre, opera, concerts in Central Park, the museums, shopping, food, etc. Our most memorable visit was during the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty. Best business advice youve received and/or given: The best advice I received was from gentleman Gene Ryder my late business partner. Genes advice was to Deliver the Goods and not to Blow Smoke in our dealings with clients. He taught me a code of ethics where honesty, fairness and respect should be embedded in a diligent work ethic. Secret to your success: Its no secret, my wife Carma. Carma is a successful corporate executive whose intelligence, work ethic, fairness in business dealings and the respect from her business associates is an on going inspiration that keeps me motivated. Plus, her insurance benefits and financial support has been most helpful. |
