Best business advice: Thomas Edison is quoted as saying “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” I believe in that philosophy because no matter who you are or what goals you set, the harder you work, the”luckier” you get.

Secret to success: Going “Beyond the Bottom Line.” Unlike most accounting firms, SKDO’s background is rooted in management consulting services. To our clients, we’re much more than a traditional accounting and auditing firm. We’re key members of their teams. We embody their missions and cultures. They become so much a part of who we are that we can anticipate their needs and become a sounding board for their business and financial decisions.

SKDO’s philosophy is to be a ‘firm of the future’. We accomplish this goal by using current technology, by acquiring a working knowledge of the most current standards and requirements and by maintaining enjoyable and rewarding relationships with our clients and with our employees.

Along with these objectives is SKDO’s personal and professional adherence to culturing a “local identity” and to contributing corporate citizens to our communities. From top to bottom SKDO is a local firm in every sense of the word. Our founders had their roots in this area, and we are intent on hiring local graduates in a variety of roles – from CPAs to individuals with accounting degrees to administrative assistants. We have found that employees who are from this area tend to have a stronger work ethic, a deeper sense of loyalty and a truer commitment to the longevity of their roles and growth with us. We believe that work should be more than a way to make a living. Rather, our roles at SKDO should lead each of us to personal growth and fulfillment.

Memorable moments in company’s history: Construction of our own office building in 2002 and the current name of Smith, Koelling, Dykstra, & Ohm P.C. becoming a member of the BDO Seidman Alliance, an international association of independently owned, local and regional accounting, consulting, business and technology firms and consequently being acknowledge in the Daily Journal’s B2B Magazine.
